PRELUDES by ELIOT

v About Eliot - Born in U.S, Eliot settled in England in 1915 and became a British citizen in 1927. He was a dominant literary figure in the twenties and thirties of the century. Eliot is credited to have revived the poetic drama on English stage. His work deal mainly with the squalor and boredom of life in the modern age. His work reflects the disillusionment, heaviness, suffering and anguish which the modern man felt.

v Background: Published in 1917 Preludes consist of four inter-related short poems. Originally it was included in the volume with the title “Prufrock and other observations”. The first and the second stanza were written at Harvard, the third at Paris and the fourth upon his return from Paris. In each prelude the Eliot reveals the thoughts and feelings of a person about an aspect of everyday living in a city.
